    Description

Nice 19th Century papier mache' snuffbox.
The black lacquer box has an early print, done in tones of rust orange, depicting a very pretty woman with a French inscription which roughly translates "A woman of the canton of Basel (??) in Switzerland."  The place name appears to be "Bale," but as there is no such canton (State) in Switzerland, we assume it is meant to read "Basel."
The top is in good condition with only a couple of tiny rubs to the top and some chipping to the enamel on the side.  The base has one chip and quite a bit of rubbing to the black enamel.
    Measures about 3 1/2" diameter x 3/4" high.
